“I don’t know about interesting but it’s certainly entertaining, if you know what I mean,” Baekhyun replied, flashing a smile at Seunghyun before fixing his eyes on the road again. “It’s about time for lyrics to be easier to approach. I mean, artsy poetry is fine and all, but if you think about the history of music, all these pompous songs for gods or eternal lovers are getting old. The idea of what music should be about has changed. These days it’s about personal experiences rather that what subject is worth a song, so it’s much easier to relate to. Come on, who even experiences love at first sight under the full moon or gets so heartbroken he ends up throwing himself in the sea? Maybe some, but there are definitely more people experiencing the vague stages of being between friends and lovers, or the kind relationship where you both hate and love your significant other, or jealousy, or sexual urges with no strings attached. I’m kinda glad the ‘songs should be beautiful’ era is finally over!”
The car was a narrow space with no hiding places or distractions to use, and Seunghyun was forced to listen as Baekhyun blabbered on and on without saying anything of relevance. The topic had never been an issue when it came to his favorite spare time activity of listening to his own voice. Car rides, even short ones, were enough to make his restless spirit feel trapped, and indifferent conversations worked better than sullen silences.
The urban scenery rushed past, and the people and the buildings and the cars blended into mundane grey mass. Baekhyun curled his toes inside his dirty sneakers and stretched his neck to peek out of the window every time the car stopped to obey the traffic rules, staring the streets and landmarks and crowds like he was trying to absorb all the information floating around, useless or not. His curiosity knew no limits.
“Oh? A little sir? You make me sound special,” he snickered, catching a brief glimpse of Seunghyun’s side profile again. “But when you put it like that, I start wondering who’s the big sir. Will I grow to be bigger some day? I don’t like competition.”
The car took a turn and then another, and Baekhyun got a vague feeling they were starting to reach their destination. Of course it had to be some club at the classier end of town. People who could afford cars didn’t visit the places he so often occupied. He shifted around restlessly, waiting for Seunghyun to decide where to park his ride.
“Sounds dangerous. Mysterious even,” he said cheerfully. “Sometimes the worst things come in the prettiest packages. Quite often, actually, since it’s what makes them so bad. People don’t like being fooled. Don’t tell me this place has a dress code. They never let me enter those…”
“You know what you sound like? An old soul trapped in this tiny body full of youth. What’s your secret? Dunking into the fountain of youth at the very last minute? Honestly, that’s something I could use. Aging is a scary thing.” Chuckling as he drove the vehicle, the elder knew that they were nearing the destination. It was still a little ways out, though, so he did have to find some means to entertain the two until they entered the place. Even so, Baekhyun seemed to be enjoying himself as the eldest silenced, listening directly to what he had to say and absorbing the information given. Hearing his perspective was amusing… not something that Seunghyun completely agreed on, but, he could come to terms with it. The male was a song writer. A lyricist. It was one of his most proud possession of having said skills. With that comes writing all sorts of songs, really– whether it be pure emotion or fucking bitches and getting money.
Both of which he enjoyed deeply.
The tires from his BMW rolled against the gravel, rubber meeting concrete as they drove on. It was a particularly nice night, the lights of the city flickering on and off as people were heading to bed or just beginning their nights. They passed plenty of different places that involves foods or entertainment areas, Seunghyun’s eyes glued to the front. Every so often he would glance at the male beside himself and catch the figure peering out. It would cause him to smile and wonder. That was a bit of a childish act, to get lost as you stared out into the world beyond a moving care. A childish act that rested within all of us to a certain extent. One whose mind was free-spirited. Was Baekhyun the same?
“Little sir is a way that I address people. Anyone who’s younger or shorter I have a habit of adding that little adjective. Oh, look, it just happened again.” Snorting a bit, he tilted his head to the side, the sharp signature jawline of his practically ready to slice someone in half. “Clearly I’m the big sir here. That’s actually a nickname. Big Seung. Sounds horrifying, doesn’t it?”
Laughing quietly and playfulyl rolling his eyes, they had finally arrived to their destination– the club. The building in which it was located was lit up at every corner, the place rather flashy and a distant rumble could be heard from within the walls. The line was long still as the night was young, Seunghyun pulling the vehicle into the parking space. As it was crowded and all slots seemed to have been taken, he just continued to roll on until he found the reserved spots. It was then that he pulled into it near the front, parking the car and shutting of the engine.
“There is a dress code, but… you’re with me. They won’t care.”
